Welcome back, Skolars!
Let's dive into how to write your best essay, for your personal statement, scholarships, etc.

A simple google search will tell you that there's a ton of information, and quite a bit of tips and resources on what makes your essay "your best" piece of writing. I found an infographic on Sharon Espstein's website that gives you a very thorough step-by-step guide on how to go about writing it, from start to finish. Here are a couple of things that stood out to me that Sharon highlights, which are often overlooked on many "essay tips" sites:
1) The emphasis on "knowing thyself." This is definitely key - admissions officers look at not only the content and how well you write, but also the values you exude from your writing. Are you showing them a person who brave and can overcome any obstacle? Or one who is deeply compassionate who loves to give? You don't necessarily have to hone in on one value- just be sure that your writing clearly reflects the set of values you're looking to excude.
2) "Dig deep & stay honest." This point is also under-emphasized. When trying to write in order to sell yourself to an admissions officer, and your most compelling story, avoid exaggerating or embellishing. Stick to the facts of your story and sell it with your writing style and the wholistic, compelling story you're looking to win them over with.
